Thanks for the workaround. But do we agree that eventually the default
action, when the user presses return (or whatever they do to invoke
GOTO_LINK) on an image that is inside a hyperlink and also has a usemap
attribute, ought to be to use the map rather than the href? Since
that's what netscape and MSIE do, web page authors will tend to write
pages under that assumption, so it would be nice for w3m to do the same.

How image maps are displayed is a separate issue. A popup menu sounds
nifty, as long as one of the menu options lets you see the map as a
page. There are things you can do from the map page that you cannot do
from a popup menu, like invoke SAVE_LINK or PEEK_LINK. (PEEK_LINK would
be useful if w3m eventually shows the alt attributes instead of the URLs
(like netscape does in the status bar).)
By the way, the only reason I mentioned menus in my original message
was as a possible way to allow the user to follow the hyperlink instead
of using the map. If GOTO_LINK is changed to give usemap precedence
over href, then perhaps the main menu should provide a selection for
following the href even when usemap is present.
