There seems to be a problem with the -cols flag and tables. I recently tried
converting an html file with tables into text with w3m. Some of the tables
were wider than 80 columns. I tried to reduce the width by adding the "-cols"
flag with values a little less than 80 like 78/79/76. Though, w3m still
produced tables wider than 80 characters. Is this a bug or pilot error?

            w3m -cols 78 -dump file.html > file.txt

I had to hand edit some of the lines to remove spaces and "-"s to get the table
widths under 80. So there was enough wiggle for w3m to have narrowed the
    tables.

To give some more background, the file was originally an MS Word file that was
    saved as html.

Even with the hand edits, w3m did a great job of converting the file to text.
Much better than that editor or other browsers.
